_Hello Lloyd, What you are asking for is to have your 'Tectonics' project develop the complete storyline for Genesis. It is not as easy as stating it occurred in 7 days or rained in 40 days and 40 nights.
_My version in www.ettingerjournals.com occurred over a period from about 3.9 bya to 1300 AD. In "Earth's Metamorphosis Hypothesis" a planet was struck and gorged by an icy impactor about 2.7 AU from the Sun in what is now called the Main Belt of asteroids. This event 3.9 bya tilted the spin axis, displaced the orbit to one AU away, sharing the new orbital region with the planet, we call the Moon. The orb's penetration created a raised surface or mega-continent. The planet's (call it Earth) mantle was bloated to create cracks and rifts in its already existing oceanic crust. This was the start of plate tectonics that other terrestrial planets do not have. The tidal accelerations from both the Moon and the closer Sun and imbalance of the spinning crust caused the plates to move. The icy volatiles of the impactor trying to float upward were trapped under the oceanic crust creating a lubricating boundary for crustal or plate movement. The water already on the planet and the water (also O2, N2, and CO2) brought by the impactor escaped (still is) via volcanism and open rifts. The steam finally condensed to form oceans and the lighter volatile formed an atmosphere.
_This version explains a whole lot of stuff including the Late Heavy Bombardment, the Apollo Mission data, the Moon's mares and mascons, and the reason why two planets share the same orbit. But, I am not finished. Due to an orbiting brown dwarf sister star that periodically passes through the outer part of the inner solar system random catastrophism occurs on the Sun's planets including Earth as told by the paper, "A Brief History of Mankind's Chaotic Past" and in EU studies. A fairly recent and one of the most catastrophic events was the Younger Dryas that caused the Holocene mass extinction. The event as told in the paper "Great Deluge: Fact or Fiction" was caused by a close encounter of a highly electrified and magnetic celestial body (either the brown dwarf or one of its planets). Earth was not only struck by huge lightning bolts, but had its geoid shifted about 20 to 30 degrees latitudinally. The combination of vector forces between this crustal/mantle displacement and the Earth's rotation caused the weak boundaries of plates to push into each other causing a dramatic uplift of probably already existing smaller mountain ridges. The ensuing electrical storms from the planetary lightning bolts is probably what caused globally Andy Hall's flat irons. Due to the geoid change, the massive East Antarctica ice sheet calved and slid into the ocean to cause the final calamity, the Great Deluge. The pasturing mammoths of the Siberian and Alaskan plains were either buried by falling muck and ice or washed northward onto the Siberian coastal islands. The evidence is undeniable.
_So, Lloyd, trying to be as brief as possible, I attempted to explain the origins of plate tectonics and continental drift and the possible forces that dramatically uplifted mountain ridges. And, I know you want calculations. Lets take the Nazca Plate and have South America push against it. The oceanic crust is typically 100 km thick and knowing the length of western shoreline of South America we obtain a cross-sectional area. Take the surface area of South America times the typical thickness of a continental crust of 200 km times the typical density of rock, about 2.5 g/cm3 to find the mass of this continental unit. The Nazca plate moves about 160 mm/year which does not help us. However, the South American continent is moving westward at the Earth's rotational velocity and then is wrenched southward briefly, say, for about 6 hours. Estimate the crash distance to be the average width of the Andes Mountains to obtain a de-acceleration and apply F=ma. Check the resultant force to see what size and height of rock column can be lifted. Also, check the resultant pressure against the Nazca plate thickness by calculating F/A(area of Nazca plate thickness). Is the resultant pressure able to crush or deform rock?
_If you insist, I may work on the actual numbers.
_All the best, Douglas Ettinger
